Why do testing tools like WAVE or Lighthouse show errors with accessWidget?

  • Updated

Testing tools like WAVE and Lighthouse are free tools for checking your site’s basic accessibility. These tools are good at checking basic elements of a site such as duplicate links, title hierarchies, duplicate titles, missing image descriptions, or ALT text.

However, since accessWidget is a session-based tool, these tools will not detect accessWidget adjustments. That's because accessWidget is designed to automatically activate when it detects a user with assistive technology accessing the site. This ensures that all adjustments are easily activated without affecting the browsing experience of site visitors who don't need them.

Since compliance tools do not access a website in the form of assistive technology, they cannot analyze accessWidget’s presence on a website nor any of its accessibility adjustments that go with it.

We do offer WAVE integration, so you can see accessWidget’s adjustments while using the tool. This helps provide a clearer view of how accessWidget improves accessibility in real-time.
